Named after the legendary British hunter Jim Corbett (1875–1955), this world-renowned Tiger Reserve is India’s first national park.
Established in 1936 over an area of 1318 sq km, this national park found a mention in the famous book ‘The Man-Eaters’ of Kumaon written by Corbett himself. It is home to some majestic animals like the Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic Elephant and many others.
Dhikala Tourism Zone
The most popular zone in Jim Corbett National Park, promises the real experience of the wild. It is a great place for night stay in the lap of nature, which is a true adventure for a wild lover.
Garjia Temple
About 14 km from Ramnagar city towards Ranikhet, this temple dedicated to Garjia Devi attracts thousands of devotees from across the world. Newlywed couples take the blessing of this goddess before coming to the Corbett.
Sitabani Forest Reserve
A heaven for bird watchers, about 10 km from Ramnagar, Sitabani has a good number of wildlife including barking deer, tigers, leopard, wild boars, elephant and king cobra. This is also the place where Goddess Sita (wife of Lord Rama) spent some days after Rama left her because of defamation. Elephant and Jeep Safari are allowed in this area.
Corbett Water Fall
About 25 km from Ramnagar City by road, this waterfall amid green foliage cascades down into a small lagoon like pool. It is a popular picnic spot and people enjoy a refreshing swimming here.
Dhangarhi Museum
Get introduced to the Corbett National Park, in the museum near Dhangarhi gate. The museum provides complete information about land topography and wildlife species inside the park.
Kosi River
The river is a meeting point of the animals where animals of Corbett come to drink water. It is also a great point for Masheer fishing. Bird lovers can meet a good number of migratory birds here and click pictures.
Bijrani Tourism Zone
The premium zone of Corbett is known for its exotic flora and fauna and has the highest populated Tiger Reserve Area of Corbett National Park. Tourists can enter this zone from Amdanda Gate near Ramnagar. Bijrani Jeep Safari is available for tiger spotting.
Safari in Jim Corbett National Park
Corbett National Park is open 365 days a year, but the best time for a jeep safari is from mid of November to end of June. Bijrani and Dhikala zones are closed during monsoon season as the roads get washed away due to heavy rain. Safari timings are mostly from 5.45 or 6 am and 1 or 1.30 pm. The same should be confirmed from the national park’s official website.
Flora and Fauna of Jim Corbett National Park
Corbett's floral diversity include about 110 species of trees, 51 species of shrubs, 27 species of climbers and 33 species of bamboo and grass are found. The main species of tree is Sal Shorea robusta which is found over 75 % of the total area. In a few areas pure stands of sal are found. Commonly found trees are Haldu Adina cardifolia, pipal Ficus religiosa, Rohini Mallotus philipensis and mango Mangifera indica .

Mammals: Tiger leopard, elephant, chital, sambar, hog deer, barking deer, wild boar, langur, Wild pig, rhesus monkey, sambar and jackal.
Birds: Peacock, Jungle Fowl, partridge, Kaleej Pheasant, crow, vulture, parakeet, Laughing Thrush, oriole, kingfisher, drongo, dove, woodpecker, duck, teal, stork, cormorant and seagull;
Reptile: Indian marsh crocodile, gharial, King cobra, common krait, cobra, Russell’s viper, python and monitor lizard;
Fish: Mahaseer, kalimuchi, kalabasu, chilwa and goonch.

The winter months from October to February are perfect to explore the natural beauty of Jim Corbett National Park. This is also the time when the majestic Bengal tiger can be spotted easily. Visiting in the months of July to September is not recommended as animals usually go in dense forest areas to guard themselves from the rains. During March to June months, the park remains hot, making safari difficult. However, this is the time when animals come out of their abodes to look for water near the river.
By Air
Patanagar airport at 50 kms is the nearest domestic airport. From here, you can hire a taxi/cab. The nearest International airport is IGI airport in New Delhi (approximately 235 kilometres).
By Rail
The nearest railhead from Jim Corbett is Ramnagar, that connects to Delhi Haridwar, Lucknow and Varanasi. Other options you can consider are Muradabad station, from where you can take the train for Ramnagar. Daily overnight Ranikhet Express connects Delhi with Kathgodam. From here you can take a taxi or a bus to reach Ramnagar.
By Road
Corbett is well-connected via Ramnagar by buses that ply daily to Delhi, Haridwar and Nainital to Ramnagar. You can choose from a wide range of semi-deluxe and deluxe bus.
